Concerned about a fire hazard, Chrysler is telling owners of about 2,500 of its 2013 Dodge Challengers with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 to stop driving the cars and not park them near any structure.
Also, Ford has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling almost 5,700 of its 2013 model Focus, C-Max and Escapes because child door locks do not work.
In a news release on Sunday, Chrysler said it was aware of seven fires — but no injuries — apparently caused by a short-circuit causing a wire harness to overheat.
Owners are being called and told “to immediately refrain from driving their vehicles and to contact their dealers” for loaner vehicles.
The automaker also said owners shouldn’t park their car “in or near any structures.” The fires could occur even with the ignition off, Eric Mayne, a Chrysler spokesman, wrote in an e-mail.
About 1,900 other Challengers are also being recalled, but those are still on dealer lots, the automaker said. Under federal regulations, dealers must carry out such recalls before the vehicles can be sold.
The vehicles were built between Dec. 3 and Jan 24, Mr. Mayne wrote.
The Ford recall was posted on the safety agency’s Web site over the weekend. The automaker’s report said the left, rear child lock might not lock.
The automaker said it discovered the problem during a routine check at the assembly plant and is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem.
